You've got loads of different areas owned by different people. You've got Papal States, you've got Sicily, but then you've got places like Florence, Pisa, Siena, Luca, Milan, Genoa, all those kind of city states, you would say. From around the 13th century, for about 400 years, we seem to have this really odd tradition of whenever you're battling with another city or you've beaten them and you want to celebrate that or you just want to stick it to them, you would have a running race around their town and it's so weird.
