Well, they brought it back because then they were able to use pieces of the original pilot in the episode, I can't remember the name of it, but it has to do with Spock is on trial. Captain Pike has been destroyed, and he's in this chair, and Captain Kirk is testifying on his behalf, and they keep cutting to footage of the original pilot. Cool.
